ACROSS Droitwich children spent Friday raising money for Children in Need by coming to school or nursery dressed up as their favourite heroes and superheroes.

At Chawson First School youngsters each paid £1 to come to school dressed as everything from Disney Frozen princesses and Spiderman to doctors and nurses, and even their own parents.

Wade Lingard dressed as Robin Hood. He said: “He is my hero because he gives money to poor people.”

Matty Sharp dressed up as his own father for the day. He added: “I’m dressed as Daddy. He’s my hero.”

Trudi Purser works in the reception class where children were given a presentation about Pudsey Bear and the work done by Children in Need.

She said: “It’s important that they realise why they’re dressed up. There’s a buzz around the school because they’re all interested in why they’re dressed as different people.”

In total the school managed to raise £301 for the charity.

At Little Learners Nursery children brought along their favourite teddies to take part in a teddy bears picnic, and staff made cakes for a cake sale to raise more funds. They’re still collecting the money raised.

Staff and children at Ombersley Endowed First School and Nursery raised £416.24 by paying to dress up, buying Pudsey Bear memorabilia, holding a cake sale and donating their loose change.

Caroline Moore, headteacher at the school said: “Children in Need is a fantastic way of getting everyone involved in something fun at the same time as raising money for a very worthy cause. The children had a great time dressing up as their favourite superheroes or getting creative with all sorts of brightly-coloured creations. All of the money raised will go to Children in Need to help support disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.”
