CHILDREN from Sytchampton First School have spent a Paddington-themed day dressing up in something marmalade coloured, to help raise money for a charity trip to darkest Peru.

David Hewitt, the parent on one of the pupils at the school, is setting off on the trip, to spend six days walking the Inca Trail for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Pupils managed to raise £200 to help Mr Hewitt’s cause, and he will be walking more than 40km for his challenge, at altitudes of up to 4,700m for as many as 10 hours a day.

Mr Hewitt, who is from Droitwich, will also be taking on Huayna Picchu, the tall mountain peak which overlooks Machu Picchu, once walkers have finished the Inca Trail.

Mr Hewitt, whose daughter Poppy is a pupil at the school, is taking on the trail in memory of his mum Hillary Hewitt, who died from cancer in the year 2000.

He said: “Macmillan nurses cared for my mother and supported our family. I chose to support them because they are inspiring people with tremendously difficult jobs.”
