A DROITWICH author, who has previously had a short story published, has written another short story to raise money for Nowzad Dogs, a charity which rescues stray and abandoned animals in Afghanistan.

The charity set up the Jbad Challenge, as a way of encouraging people to take on their own personal challenge doing anything from climbing Snowdon, or cycling the length of the UK, to losing weight.

Entrants were asked to register their challenge with the charity, and create a fundraising page at Just Giving, and author Sue Thomas decided to try and raise £250 by writing a short story.

Her story describes the relationship between a soldier in Afghanistan and his working dog Nvoy, who both get injured in a bomb blast.

Nowzad Dogs was first set up by Pen Farthing, who worked as a soldier in Now Zad in Afghanistan, rescuing dogs and cats from the streets, before rehabilitating them and trying to rehome them in the UK and United States.

Ms Thomas said: “The challenge I chose was to write another fictional short story around a dog and his handler stationed in Afghanistan, which I have titled 'Nvoy ' and is included in the 'JustGiving' page I have created. I have always loved writing short stories.”
