A DROITWICH woman has been presented with the Rotary Club’s Good Citizen award for her work supporting the town’s Remembrance Service and Parade.

Katherine Holmes was presented with the award by the town’s mayor Councillor Graham Beale in recognition of her work with the sale and distribution of wreaths for the event.

The Droitwich branch of the Royal British Legion was in difficulty in 2013, and there had been some doubt about whether the town would host a Remembrance service and parade in the following year, but branch chairman Steve Moore, and secretary Alan Newman asked the Rotary Club if it could help, and Ms Holmes one was of the people to volunteer.

An employee of international chocolate producer, Ferrero Rocher, Ms Holmes stepped in to help out with the sale and distribution of wreathes, and the management of their distribution and laying on Remembrance Sunday, as well as the collection and recording of payments.

Ms Holmes has continued to be involved with the event this year, working with the Rotary and British Legion team. Anyone who would like to have a wreath in the service, can contact Sandy Laird from the Rotary Club on 01905 773620.
