DROITWICH MP Nigel Huddleston had been given an idea of what the world might be like for someone living with sight loss at a event organised by the RNIB.

The sight loss awareness training session, which was designed to help members of parliament better help their blind constituents, saw the Mid Worcestershire MP gain insight into alternative formats for information such as Braille, large print and audio, as well as learning how to guide, and issues to take into consideration when meeting blind and partially sighted constituents at a surgery appointment, including public transport and building access.

Mr Huddleston said: “I am so pleased I took part in this training session. I think it is really important that everyone is aware of the difficulties that those with eye conditions experience on a day to day basis.

“It is essential that Government and local authorities do everything they can to ensure that all the information they produce and the facilities they run can be assessed by those with sight loss.”

Helen Dearman, parliamentary manager at RNIB, added: “We’re very pleased that the training session was such a success. Sight loss awareness is so important and it's vital that MPs meet the needs of their blind and partially sighted constituents."
