DESPITE the cold weather this week, it is looking like we might see a mini heatwave in Worcestershire this Bank Holiday weekend.

Forecasters say tropical air from Spain and north Africa is expected to arrive in Britain in the coming days, pushing the mercury up from the 10C seen this week, to 21C.

The forecast for today is rain to clear to leave sunny spells, with temperatures reaching a high of 13C, and tomorrow they will reach 17C.

It’s expected to continue to warm up during the weekend, reaching 20C on Saturday, 21C on Sunday, with 20C expected on Bank Holiday Monday.

There is expected to be only a small chance of rain - and the early forecast for next week also looks good. The Met Office defines a heatwave as when ‘the daily maximum temperature of more than five consecutive days, exceeds the average maximum temperature by 5C.’ 14C is the average for Worcester in May.

The Met Office tweeted: “It’s warming up as we head through the week (and dare we say towards Bank Holiday weekend).”
