CHILDREN from Clifton upon Teme Primary will grow and cook more of their own food at school if ambitious plans come to fruition.

Lottery funding is being sought to create new garden and kitchen facilities at the school with the gardening work being shared between the school children and community.

The school, which has held the Eco-School Green Flag for the past 14 years, already has an active gardening club.

Headteacher Cathryn Throup said: "This is a fantastic opportunity, not only to get all our children to be hands-on with growing and cooking their food but also to strengthen links with our local community."

The project will involve residents of Clifton helping with the gardening and working with the children.

Clifton Women’s Institute are throwing their support behind the proposals and people pledged their support during a consultation event last weekend.

The plan is to apply for grant funding from the Awards for All Lottery Fund.

If successful, work could begin in the autumn term so that the growing and cooking together could start next spring.

Currently, the children’s green fingers are busy tending flowers in readiness for planting in the school’s show garden at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival at the Three Counties Showground in May.
