STUDENTS at an independent school in Worcester celebrated their success with an awards ceremony.

Archway Academy caters for students who have previously struggled in mainstream schools.

They typically deal with youngsters of 14 to 19 but can cater for pupils as young as nine.

Andrew Whitehouse, Head of Worcester, Archway Academy, said: "It's a thank you to the learners and their parents for this academic year.

"They've been very successful, achieving their qualifications in construction, hospitality, hair and beauty, employability, art and design and gaining the functional skills they need to progress to a higher level college course or an apprenticeship.

"Our achievements this year have been outstanding.

"We try and provide support for our students.

"We've had 55 learners this year and everyone will achieve and progress. We don't set anyone up to fail.

"Students do maths and English but in real-world examples.

"We invite the parents in to do course as well."

At the ceremony, student of the year went to Emily Tarbox, while hair and beauty student of the year was Charlotte Andrews, art and design student of the year was Nikita Thompson and hospitality student of the year was Paul White.

Functional skills student of the year was Danielle Taylor, construction student of the year was Luke Loveridge and 121 student of the year was Isaac Neal.
