STUDENTS of Heart of Worcestershire College grabbed their bin bags and their litter pickers to support the Clean for The Queen campaign.

Taking place at Perry Wood Nature Reserve, Worcester, the students who are currently undertaking Horizons and Supported Internships programmes teamed up with Environmental Wardens from The Duckworth Trust to clean up in time for the Queen’s 90th birthday in June.

Throughout the day the students collected one and a half tonnes of rubbish including Christmas trees, tyres, two bicycles, an ironing board and a fridge freezer, filling an industrial builders skip.

James Birbeck, senior warder at Duckworth Trust, added: "We had a great turn out on the day, 25 people from all areas of the community, including the students from HoW College, who did a great job dragging out bikes, ironing boards and a fridge freezer.

"The day also gave them the opportunity to build on their social skills, chatting with a variety of people from all walks of life."

Clean for the Queen is a campaign aiming to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016.

Individuals, volunteer groups, local councils, businesses and schools are all invited to do their bit and can register to help out via cleanforthequeen.co.uk
