Leaflet concerns for city candidate
A CANDIDATE standing in Worcester is calling on the Royal Mail to carry out a review after she was left with thousands of surplus leaflets.
The Liberal Democrat party’s Jackie Alderson said she had about 7,000 leaflets left over despite the fact Royal Mail said her election address had been delivered to every home in the city.
Meanwhile, the British National Party is claiming “several thousand” of its leaflets have not been delivered in Warndon and St John’s, although Royal Mail said: "We are confident that we have delivered election materials in Worcester correctly.
“We received more leaflets than were needed for the number of elligible addresses in the area in addition to the extras that we always request to ensure that we have sufficient coverage."
As a result Ms Alderson, who supplied 50,000 leaflets to Royal Mail after they had advised candidates should supply at least 46,200 leaflets to cover the city, said: "I am relieved to hear that my campaign message has gone out across the city. That was always my main concern.
"But once the election is over, I hope Royal Mail will conduct a review to discover why candidates were required to supply far more leaflets than it seems are really needed."

.
Royal Mail indicated that she needed to supply at least 46,200 to cover every household, which they state includes extras.
.
Discounting any fluffiness in interpreting "about 7000" left-over (meaning 6,500 to 7,500 in my book), she's looking at about 6% to 7% of leaflets undelivered compared to the 46,200 that Royal Mail told her she needed (apparently including extras). 6 or 7% could concieveably be considered to be a reasonable number of extras by Royal Mail.
.
The fact that she gave them 4000 more leaflets than they asked for is her problem, surely?
.
Turning up to debates is better than trying to make excuses about why you lost out.

Exactly, Marant - The fact that a few of her leaflets didn't get delivered should be the least of her worries. As it stands, a lot of people already think that she can't really be bothered, seeing as she's sent representatives to a lot of debates where she was due to appear.
.
If Ms Alderson had turned up to more debates, then she would have to rely less on her precious leaflets which the majority of people usually just throw straight in the bin anyway.

To anyone who watched the BBC Politics Show on Sunday morning at the Guildhall.
Worcestershire school funding has NOT doubled as claimed by Labour candidate Mike Foster.
We come 10th from bottom out of 150 authorities, and have had an increase of around 33% of one of the very smallest original amounts since 1997 (everyone else has had much more).
To say funding has doubled is completely UNTRUE.
I have had this verified by County.
TELL THE TRUTH MR FOSTER!!!!

So will Jackie be using this as one of the reasons why she didn't get in then (if, indeed, that is the case)..?
Or will she admit that it's mainly because she didn't turn up to anywhere near as many debates as the other candidates did? I wonder.
