THE Bishop of Worcester will make a last-ditch public intervention into the EU debate - telling voters they face "the most significant decision of our generation".

The Right Rev Dr John Inge has decided to take part in a Q&A event in Worcestershire less than 48 hours before polling day to try and rally undecided people.

Bishop John has so far stayed out of any public hustings bashes about the referendum, but did publish a first-person piece for the Diocese of Worcester website last month backing Remain.

In a lengthy piece which got widespread coverage in the media and within the Church of England, he said a Brexit would make the world "much more dangerous".

He has also co-signed a letter to The Observer newspaper, signed by a host of church leaders around Britain, pleading with people to stay in.

He will now take part in the Q&A at The Cube, Malvern on Tuesday June 21 alongside MP Harriett Baldwin and former Labour Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

He said: "The vote on whether or not to remain in the EU is arguably the most significant decision of our generation.

"The decision is significant not only for this country, but for the rest of Europe and the world.

"I hope the event will give people who haven't yet made up their minds a chance to engage with the issues and allow them to reflect carefully before deciding where to place their cross."

Mrs Baldwin said: "I'm delighted Bishop John has agreed to come and take part.

"This is a vote which could have serious implications for many generations to come, and I want to make sure that people are informed of the facts before they go into the ballot box."

In Bishop John's first-person piece he said a vote to quit "could well precipitate the beginning of the breakup of the European Union".

He said: "It's because of the EU, that it's now unthinkable that the countries of Europe, which fought each other so fiercely a couple of generations ago, should now go to war with one another."

The event will take place from 7pm.
