A MOTHER-of-two has been left humbled by kind-hearted readers who have said they are willing to donate a kidney to her.

Sally-Anne Grainger, who has cystic fibrosis, said she was touched that strangers would offer to go through major surgery to give her the chance to see her daughters grow up.

Her plea for a live kidney donor featured on the front of your Worcester News on Saturday, January 4, after she had exhausted all other options with friends and family.

Already, offers of help have been received from people who are the same blood type, O positive, and could potentially become her donor.

Forms will be sent out to everyone who has contacted the paper and potential matches will then go through tests at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Miss Grainger, from Swallowfields, in Warndon Villages, was told by consultants that she needed to have the operation after the strong medication used during a previous double lung transplant in March 2009 put extra strain on her kidneys.

She was diagnosed with renal failure with consultants warning that her kidneys were only expected to work for another five years.

The 34-year-old needs dialysis three times a week and is also battling anaemia but wants the transplant to improve her quality of life and spend more time with her daughters Kelsey, 14, and Megan, nine.

Miss Grainger said: “I feel so humbled, I am amazed and so shocked that people have come forward and are willing to help.

“It’s absolutely amazing and I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will find a match.”

Some of the people who have came forward as potential donors had family members who had also received an organ transplant.

Others said they had considered being a donor but Miss Grainger’s story had moved them to act.

She added: “I am so thankful to everyone for getting in touch. It means everything to me.”
