Everyone knows the world is changing and that global warming is destroying the ice caps but do you ACTUALLY know what's happening?
Global warming is the rise in temperature of the Earth's atmosphere.
Rays from the sun, naturally warm the earth, which pass through the atmosphere and are reflected back out to space again. The atmosphere is made up of several layers of gases - greenhouse gases.
They're mostly natural & make up a kind of thermal blanket for the earth.
This lets some of the rays back out of the atmosphere and keeps the earth at the right temperature for things to survive - about 16C.
Some people think it is good. However the majority of scientists think if extra greenhouse gases are made, the thermal blanket gets thicker and too much heat is kept in the earth's atmosphere - that's when global warming is bad.
Some people say that we are going to go into an ice age, some say a desert, but what I don't understand is how a place can be two extremes.
However the reality is that it doesn't matter what it is going to be like in the future it is now that we have to worry about. In reality, it IS real what's on the news about the ice caps melting, it is happening. Global Warming isn't a case of if' and when' because it is now, its not science fiction these things are happening.
I'm sure you don't want the poles to melt, because at this rate they will, you don't want the things that the scientist say will happen to happen.
So you need to do something. Even if it's just turning off a light or doing more recycling, walking to school- it will all help. And lets face it the world needs help.
THERE are a variety of ways in which you can help the Towards a Brighter Future appeal. Here's what you need to know.
