Venue: Conkers
Where: Conkers, Rawdon Road, Moira, near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Derbyshire. What's on offer:Conkers describes itself as 'in the heart of the national forest' and offers more than 100 acres of woodland to explore and enjoy. There are indoor and outdoor activities, as well as a range of live shows in the amphitheatre. Conkers is split into two parts - the Waterside Centre and the Discovery Centre, linked by either a short walk or a ride on a miniature railway. Other attractions include an assault course (for teenagers and adults only), a labyrinth, a tree canopy walk and, new for 2007, the Enchanted Forest. This is an indoor discovery zone, which includes a massive play area and plenty of hands-on experiments and experiences for children of all ages. There are also two cafes and plenty of concession stands. Opening Times:From Easter until October half-term, 10am to 6pm. From October half-term to end of November 10am to 5pm. From December to February half-term 10am to 4.30pm. From February half-term to Easter 10am to 5pm. How to get there: From Worcester, head north on the M5. At junction 4a, change on to the M42, towards the north-east. Leave the M42 at junction 11 and join the A444, towards Burton-upon-Trent. After two miles, turn right in the village of Overseal at the junction with the B5003.Prices: Adults £6.70, children (aged 3-15) £4.70. Family tickets (two adults and two children) £18.95.Review:Conkers has plenty to offer for a great day out. The woodland is, if anything, too big - there simply isn't time to explore it all. It is better to pick your activities and aim for those. Younger children will enjoy the play park in the Waterside Centre, while teenagers will love the challenge of the assault course. The Enchanted Forest is full-on - it is easy to get lost in the maze of climbing frames, slides, rope bridges and giant conkers. There are a vast number of buttons to push and noises to make in the Discovery Centre which are both fun and educational, if a little exhausting. Staff are friendly and helpful and will suggest suitable activities for your group. by Jim Collins
