There is a movement ban on ash trees
12:18pm Monday 21st January 2013 in Read
SIR – Re your article on ash disease (Worcester News, January 9).
It said: “The Forestry Commission advises people to check on any young trees planted in the last five years and is urging gardeners to buy disease-free stock from reputable suppliers.”
Sorry, but this information in part is wrong. Currrently there is a movement ban on ash trees across the UK.
Therefore nurseries and garden centres cannot sell them – end of.
If you suspect an ash tree is affected with the disease, smart phone users can downlaoad a really useful free app called AshTag.
On this the user can identify the disease and even register the tree to the authorities using GPS.
