SIR - Regarding plans for a waste recycling site.

Surely Worcester County Council planning committee should not be hearing the planning application for a waste sorting centre in Woodbury Lane, Norton, when the county council itself has such a vested interest in the whole scheme.

This is clearly a case for a public inquiry.

JOHN F WHITEHOUSE, Littleworth.

I believed that democracy was government by ALL the people through elected representatives NOT for individuals with own agendas to bully small communities into accepting a foregone conclusion without even up to date traffic assessments or any environmental/pollution assessments specific to the siting of this proposed waste plant. This site will operate 24/7 & process waste from not only Worcestershire but Herefordshire & this is the thin edge of the wedge!!!!...Worcester city will be the dustbin of Worcestershire off the M5...what a good reputation.

Concerning C Cooper's comments, I entirely agree.
We are all supposed to thelp the environment. This plan by the County Council WILL DAMAGE THE ENVIRONMENT because they will have lorries travelling up and down over two counties just to bring our waste to Norton for sorting. This is environmental madness.
The County Council chairman stated in a public meeting that if people were not happy with it, quote Then they can just take it to a Judicial Review. How democratic is this?
The Worcester News ought to be leading a campaign for a public enquiry.

Ruth Kelly insists that this application is local in nature - this is not the case when the size of the proposed plant is of regional size and will be used to import waste from outside the counties.
