Sir - Last year I gave my support to the Green Party because it is the only party with a consistent set of principles and a moral dimension which its members are prepared to defend.

The Greens are also attracting the votes of people who are disenchanted with the political establishment which is understandable since expenses scandals refuse to go away as with the recent Maria Miller MP case.

Less understandable is that UKIP is also attracting some of this protest vote.

Most UKIP members are unsure what their party stands for, if anything, except for wanting Britain to leave the EU. Nigel Farage makes policy on the hoof and manages to upset some of his members who promptly leave and form new parties. Others of his members have been expelled in order to stop the party from looking like the BNP. He has also confessed to not knowing, or caring very much about, what was in his party's last manifesto. Like Labour Peers who claim they are in the Lords to abolish it, he remains a highly paid Euro MP while asserting that he is against British membership. Phew!

Voting UKIP in the coming local elections would be a wasted vote. UKIP won four seats a year ago on Worcestershire County Council and are now down to one. Two councillors have resigned. The other is sadly deceased.
