Dear Sir
Mr.Phillpot is again abusing his privileged position of being able to reach a large audience, by not stating all the relevant facts in his article. All grammar schools have not been abolished by the Labour Party. There are still 164 in existence. His own Laurence Sheriff school is still selective. But that is not the point. Mr Phillpot has no consideration for the 80% of 11year olds who were told they were a failure. They were not ,but they still cannot shake off this feeling even after decades . He himself keeps bringing up the fact that he passed the 11plus and he is well passed his sell by date. Regarding his opinion on debt and mortgages, he forgets that there was tax relief for anyone lucky enough to have a mortgage which was worth a great deal. As for hard work - was Mr Phillpot a miner, farmer, builder slaughterman or some such like - I don't think so.
