Sir - The possible building of a poultry shed in Upton Snodsbury has certainly ruffled a few feathers with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Their latest correspondent (Worcester News 9th July) is Public Relations Officer Hannah Levitt.

She claims a United Nations report shows that livestock farming is the top two or three most significant contributors to environmental problems.

Her figures are incredibly vague and the conclusions of this publication have been revised down considerably since it first appeared.

Ms Levitt claims PETA do run an "animal shelter" however PETA staff have on record denied this when visited by the Virginia State Agricultural Department.

PETA has an annual income of over thirty five million dollars. Even with such a huge budget they are reckoned to put down eighty five to ninety percent of animals within twenty fours hours of being taken into care.

According to veterinary reports this includes healthy puppies and kittens.

The animal rights movement often claim if abattoirs had windows nobody would eat meat. Interestingly the windows at the PETA building in Norfolk Virginia USA are made of reflective glass, so nobody can view what might occurs within.
