Sir - Most agree that our roads are in an absolutely appalling state! Or are they?

Even a cursory glance by an untrained observer, shows that after strenuous efforts by most Councils, the surfaces are actually now quite good!

However, what is subjecting us all to spine shattering rides everywhere, after laying expensive and beautifully smooth tarmac, are the sunken manhole covers which have not been raised level with the road surface!

Do the Councillors or "Road Supervisor Officials" never use the roads? Can they not see this?

If so, why do they not finish the job and insist on the Water, Gas and Electric authorities spending a few quid to raise their drains and manhole covers level and flush?

Other central European nations can do it without problem, so why not us? The EU is always happy to fund these matters in other countries - so why not us as well?
