Sir - "Open Europe" yesterday produced a flash analysis looking at the implications of David Cameron's reshuffle and the nomination of Lord Hill as the U.K.'s EU Commissioner, noting that Phil Hammond's appointment as Foreign Secretary "sends a clear message both at home and abroad that reform is not just desirable but fundamental to the U.K.'s EU membership.

It also noted that the centre of gravity in the Cabinet has shifted in a more eurosceptic direction".

Speaking on the BBC's Today programme this morning , newly appointed Defence Sectretary, Michael Fallon said: "It's certainly a eurosceptic Cabinet but the country is eurosceptic now.

"We think Europe has been on the wrong lines and you have seen a Prime Minister prepared to veto things coming from Europe ...and promoting reform in Europe."

Speaking as a non-Tory, I am happy with his state-of-affairs and look forward to it continuing in this direction.

I hope that our non-Cabinet M.P. Mrs Baldwin will make her own contribution to this welcome policy direction.
