Sir - I am pleased to see that the City Council propose to tackle the problem of business waste currently left out overnight. This on-going problem along with the two-legged vermin that drop litter and go unpunished is one of the reasons why we have seen an increase in the rat population.

I have also noticed a number of people down by the riverside who see no problem in feeding the pidgeons and gulls. Thus encouraging their dependence on scraps from humans.

While on the subject of pollution I would also like to mention air quality. Isn't it about time that we banned garden bonfires, especially in the summer? Hot humid days, bonfires and respiratory problems are not a good mix.
