I refer to Arnold Sayers Butlers letter in the Worcester News on the 6th August.
During the late 1950s and through the 1960s I grew up and attended School in rural Shropshire. "Obbly, obbly, onker, my first conker" was definitely said during the conker season so Mr Butler's granddad was not making it up and the saying was probably being quoted in many school playgrounds in many counties.
I wonder, do today's children play conkers or is the game considered to be a health and safety risk!!!?
