Sir - How fortunate Worcestershire CCC is to have a captain of the calibre of Darryl Mitchell, a Worcestershire man through and through.
At our invitation, he opened an excellent new extension to the pavilion at Avoncroft Cricket Club.
He spoke very pleasant and encouraging words about his own club background in the county, and spent a good couple of hours chatting to the many people, especially the youngsters who were present. He is extremely modest and self-effacing, but has that glimmer of steel and determination in his eyes which show why he makes such a good captain.
We were all delighted when he once again led his team from the front to a splendid victory over Lancashire yesterday. What a fine ambassador for cricket and the county.
