Sir - With reference to the letter sent in by Mr Pete Leach , his comments and those in a later letter on the same subject are spot on and show the futility of the so called 'Newtown Corridor' that has achieved nothing positive and cost millions of pounds that could have been better spent on frontline services.

During the consultation period prior to its installation residents in the area all voiced numerous safety concerns , 'Lip Service' was duly applied by the 'Powers that be' the project went ahead and as with the Whittington Island Fiasco where there was initially your good old everyday congestion a large amount of danger has been added to spice up the motorists day .

Driver frustration on the 'Part Time Bus Lane' is an everyday problem , near misses are common place and when a bus goes down the outside lane and forces its way 'into' Bus Lane you wonder whether one day Ron Smith will have a new window display. When drivers overtake the holdups into the oncoming lane so that three lanes of traffic are approaching the Traffic Lights then you also wonder whether Niagra Windows will suffer the same fate.

he Ripon Road section when it does have a bus on it which is not often is particularly entertaining for motorists when a bus swerves into the outside lane in front of you to avoid using the bus gate.

Sadly we will probably be left with this expensive White Elephant as Prodger's Follies will always take precedent over the needs and concerns of the ordinary motorist.
