Sir - Once again UKIP is under fire because politician Douglas Carswell has followed his conscience and changed parties.
This is not uncommon at all levels of society. My husband and I were staunch “grass roots” Conservatives until their values (not ours) changed, and we turned to UKIP.
Local politicians of all persuasions have crossed the floor – I can name at least 3 City and/or County Councillors, past and/or present.
And do the Conservatives forget that one of our greatest politicians of all time moved to them from the Liberal Party – Winston Churchill? Do we condemn him? I think history confirms that we do not!
