SIR, As one of the mindless white sheep whose mentality is being questioned by Julia Blacksheep (Friday, September 12), I would like to air some of my thoughts about why I was sat in a chair (in the photo) having a bucket of iced water poured over me. I agree social pressure is extremely powerful but in this case it has been used to good cause, spreading awareness of ALS to a great number of persons about this devastating disease, so what if not everyone donated (although as sheep they should have done) the charities have still gained a lot. We were also able, like the rest of the flock to have fun whilst encouraging generosity as do other charity campaigns that we "sheep" like to follow such as Children in Need, Red Nose Day, Comic Relief, Race for Life etc. Indeed the flock at our pub have raised many thousands of pounds for various charities over the years. The Ice Bucket Challenge at our pub raised just under £150, not a fortune but not bad for a flock of mindless sheep. I'm glad I chose to be a brainless white sheep in this case.

Baaaaah humbug.
