Sir -

On Friday 26 September, I was rushed into hospital with a suspected heart attack. Thankfully it was a false alarm and all is well.

However, from the very start to the very end of my care I was treated with respect, care and compassion from all those who work in the Ambulance Service, Worcester A&E and the Medical Assessment Unit.

I spent several hours being looked after; but I also had the real privilege of watching dedicated professionals working hard for their patients. I would like to thank them for their continued dedication and care.

It was a privilege to see socialised healthcare working. Paid for from taxation and provided free at the point of delivery according to our needs.

A service worth fighting for. Aneurin Bevan said in 1948 that “The NHS will last as long as there are folk left with the faith to fight for it".

I have never lost my faith; but in my hour of need it has been reinforced. May there always be people willing to work for the NHS and people with the faith to protect it.

County Councillor (Worcester St John’s).
