Sir - Did any of us expect the council's promise to improve the Whittington Island situation to be kept? Me neither.

Especially in view of Councillor Geraghty's historical comments that it was all our fault for not effectively being good enough drivers to negotiate it!

We obviously don't get the nuances of paying a fortune to get a slip road that some use, some ignore, and others just stare at as if its a rubix cube.

Now we are told by Jon Fraser (what exactly is a highways customer and community manager-other than something requiring a very long name badge and large salary) that final pieces of work are being done on highly technical drawings.

Pardon me whilst I stop laughing. Drawings of what..stop signs? Give way? Or perhaps a radical one- No left turn.

I hate to break it to Mr Fraser, but these are actually in the highway code. And require no expensive taxpayer funded consultants!

Could I suggest some 'highly technical' signage for his highly paid team to consider? For the zig zag area, 'Insurance details exchange zone'.

And for the entrance to the slip road, 'road closed'. Now that would work.
