Sir - Linda Squires (WN Letters, 6/11/14) is fully justified in claiming that “Market traders have been treated appallingly”. I would add that users of the market and residents have also been ignored by our council’s Tory leadership.

There was no public consultation in advance about changes to Angel Place market.

Residents only heard about the changes after secret business deals had been concluded with a private company who will take over the management of both Angel Place market and our Christmas Victorian Fayre.

Our Tory-led government, enthusiastically supported by our local Tory county and city councillors, want as many of our council services as possible to be handed over and run by other organisations.

This might save money, but means that residents and elected councillors have very little influence on how services are delivered.

Why aren’t people who buy vegetables or pet food at the market on Fridays not being asked if they are happy buying antiques instead?

Our Tory council leaders don’t ask, don’t listen and don’t care – they just do it.
