Sir - I was so pleased to read that Worcester City Council has banned the setting of snares on its land.
I went once with a friend who had been asked to rescue a fox caught in a snare.
The poor animal was caught round the groin and had gouged a huge circle in the surrounding grass in her efforts to get away. She was completely exhausted when we arrived.
We cut the snare, took her home and made her comfortable in the barn but she died in the night. At least she died in some sort of comfort.
Interestingly the friend, who was now rescuing animals, had set snares to catch rabbits in his youth, until he got his hand caught in one. He never did it again.
