Sir - I fully understand that this letter will be controversial!

So can your Animal Rights, Anti Hunting, RSPCA, RSPB, supporters along with Vegetarians, and Vegan readers allow the EU and UK fishing industries to cause great suffering to fish?

Do trawler skippers humanly slaughter fish destine for our consumption? NO they just let them suffocate on board, or at worst gut them either by hand or machine whilst still alive.

Now there would be uproar if we culled our Christmas turkeys by holding them underwater to drown, or heaven forbid start to pluck and dress them before death, the same sentiment goes for Lamb, Beef, Chicken, the list is endless. But why is it ok to treat fish in this way?

That being the case why do some vegetarians eat fish? when they are possibly the worst treated food source on our planet!

This question come`s about after watching a television program entitled Trawler Wars a program that follows trawler fishermen from Newlyn, and Brixham, during one section of the program it clearly showed a large soft bellied fish whilst still alive when a fisherman stuck his knife into the belly of the fish to remove it`s innards prior to putting the fish on ice.

Interestingly farmed fish appear to be at the very least stunned prior to being prepared for sale, so why the difference? Answers on a postcard please, but not from Newlyn or Brixham!
