SADLY the iconic view of Lord Coventry's tower from the Lower Green area of Broadway, referred to by some as the finest view in all England, is slowly disappearing behind trees on the Cotswold escarpment.

The linkage between the tower and Broadway has played an important part in the history of our village and, through the employment provided by tourism, helps sustain our economic security. It seems that this view is being obscured as an unintended consequence of a decision by the owners of the field below the tower not to maintain their hedges as our forefathers did.

The remedy is simple. The hedgerow trees need to be brought back under control perhaps the few trees blocking the view could be pollarded. Wychavon's Tree officer has suggested that the Parish Council could negotiate with the land owner(s) to resolve the matter but the Council seem unwilling to do this. Local residents and visitors who share my opinion of the importance of maintaining our visual link with the tower could help by contacting the Broadway Parish Council or one of the three BTs; the Broadway Trust, the Broadway Traders Association or the Broadway Tower Country Park, to discuss their concerns.
