SIR - My sister was one of the record number of visitors to Worcester's Victorioan Fayre on Saturday. She is an art and history lover, so one of the highlights I looked forward to showing her was the Assembly Room in the Guildhall. But what a disappointment! Even though we got there at gone 3, the chandeliers were off and we could barely see the paintings and the glorious Italianate ceiling in the gloom. When we asked for a bit of light on the subject, a City Council staff member told us he'd been instructed to leave the chandeliers off during the day.

I'm all for saving energy, but wouldn't it be nice once in a while for Worcester to show a bit of civic pride and strut its stuff? How sad that over 100,000 visitors have gone home oblivious to the extra-special sparkly wonder that is Worcester's Guildhall lighting up the High Street on a Winter's afternoon.
