Sir - Every time I have walked passed the trees in front of the Guildhall, I have wondered how long it would be before vandals destroyed them. Now, totally predictably, they have.
There are sad idiots who like nothing better than spoiling the environment we all share. I am surprised the trees were not attacked sooner, given that they were completely unprotected.
It's the city council and whoever was responsible for not putting strong tree guards around young trees on a main thoroughfare who should be lambasted.
Do those responsible in the council not realise that there are destructive brainless wonders in our midst; or are they totally naive and imagine that there are no yobs amongst us?
The long-suffering majority who have a sense of civic pride have to pay for the stupidity of the mindless minority and the loss of amenity with their taxes.
Let us hope the council learns the lesson, if it is capable of doing so.
