SIR - According to George Cowley (December 18) we are being killed by fumes from vehicles on our roads.

If that is correct why is it that with more traffic than ever on our roads that life expectancy continues to rise year by year.

Force people to use public transport is his answer to the problem (What a joke).

Yesterday I waited 35 minutes for a bus and at 88 years of age it's no joke.

Just imagine how long bus queues would be if cars were forced off the roads.
