SIR - On a recent visit to the Hallow Road Recycling Depot to recycle newspaper and other paper products, I was advised not to put the paper into the waste paper skip, as it had 'been contaminated' with Christmas wrapping paper, so my paper had to be dumped in landfill skip, and the whole contents of the paper recycling skip would be taken for landfill at Lower Moor, Pershore.
Can someone explain why Christmas wrapping paper/card contaminates other paper waste?
What is the point of householders taking the eco-friendly view of waste recycling, if the operators of waste sites don't ensure that well-meaning members of the public put their waste in the correct skip?
Perhaps the staff at waste sites should be more pro-active in checking what the public area attempting to recycle, or have a system where visitors are required to seek advice on arrival at the tip, as to where to put their rubbish!
