Sir -
The Greens propose a 20mph limit on the Blanquettes estate claiming 164 names on a petition (WN 16.01.15). But look at the online comments and it is a different story.
Everyone wants safer roads. As a local resident I am surprised they believe there is a groundswell of feeling.
I was unaware of any petition. Where is the data demonstrating reckless driving? I find it impossible to believe one could drive at high speeds over the humps currently in place.
The Highways Authority, at a recent open meeting, said that this speed limit was unlikely to be enforced by the Police.
Driving at 20mph produces more emissions. The Lowesmoor situation is a good example. A very odd stance for a party so keen on environmental issues.
I do not believe that this petition is representative of the residents. This proposal is environmentally unfriendly, unenforceable and unnecessary. Why are they insistent on wasting resources on yet another hiding to nowhere?
This is a typical Green trick stoking up a local issue for political purposes. They have tried unsuccessfully elsewhere.
St. Stephens Ward will not be deceived again.
