Sir - The letter in the Worcester News (21/01/2015) from Mr M Young castigating New Labour for building the Worcester Royal Hospital under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) omits to point out that it was the Conservatives that invented PFI, built several hospitals using it, and it was no great credit to Tony Blair's 'New Labour' government that they followed the Tory doctrine of using the PFI for Worcester Royal.
When they made that decision, in the very early stages of their term of office, the plans they inherited were so far advanced that, had they not used the Tory PFI plans the hospital would have had to go back to square one and it is doubtful we would have had a new hospital even now.
In any case who now believes that 'New Labour' was a 'Labour Government' in the true sense of the word?
History shows that 'New Labour' was a Tory government in disguise.
Please Mr Young check your facts before writing?
