Sir - Living in the Archers county & having always been a listener, I am drawn, at the current time to thinking about the plight of our farmers, particularly our dairy farmers.
It would seem that our constant desire for lower prices accommodated by the supermarkets is making it impossible for small and medium sized farmers to make a living. This is a tragedy that will, I believe, come back to haunt us all.
Once we come to rely for our milk on just a few massive dairy farms there will be no competition and little to stop the price increasing.
The big farms using highly intensive production methods will have achieved a monopoly on supplies. I find myself longing for the age of the milk marketing board and doorstep deliveries.
With an election coming up maybe we should spare a thought for our farmers, particularly in an agricultural county like Worcestershire. To all those politicians, how about a thought for our farmers and giving them a fair price for their labours? After all, we all need food.
