SIR - So we begin to see the vast scale involved in the SWDP with the photo on the front page of the Worcester News March 6. 380 acres are reportedly to be covered in concrete by Welbeck Strategic Land for 2,200 homes giving life to the environmentally obscene plans for another 30,000 houses here. Your respondents to On the Web, illustrate people are beginning to see a glimmer of what is going to happen. Your Web contributors might reflect that the SWDP is 15 times larger than the tiny part they have glimpsed on the Worcester News front page, which has so fired up their boilers.

Such huge developments aren't about homes for the people. They are about profits and bonuses for the already rich in the City. I calculate Welbeck Strategic Land's site for 2,200 homes will make them around £100 million in profits. Not a bad return for 2,200 Noddy Boxes! The entire SWDP has a profit potential of around £1,364,000,000 as well as an increase in council tax income of £50 million annually. The demonstrably huge corporate profits emanating from continual housing construction and the ever increasing tax income politicians enjoy from it, explains why house building is seen by our MPs as the Engine of our Economy. And it is of course fuelled by our MPs constantly pouring millions more people into the country. Something we can all see in Worcester from the increasing numbers of foreigners walking our streets. All of which explains why we see immigration figures rising despite the anti-immigration flimflam our politicians spout.

The SWDP is going to virtually double the number of homes, people and cars, in our locality, and completely swamp our infrastructure, in doing so it is going to destroy our quality of life.
