SIR, On Monday February 23, I was admitted to the A&E Unit suffering from severe loss of breath. I returned home the following day but was there long enough to witness the chaos within. Wheelchair journeys were difficult along corridors jammed with trolleys. There is little room for medical equipment and you need a good driver

I must express my admiration for the staff, particularly the nurses. They were professional and tended to my every need however large, however small. They maintained a high work rate throughout their shifts but managed to be sociable and free with their smiles.

The ambulance crews that dealt with me had the task of carrying me up and down four flights of steps which was attained with consummate skill combined with a cheerful outlook.

My thanks to them all.
