Sir - May I heartily endorse Phil Pegler`s recent letter regarding Councillor Liz Smith`s time as Claines Councillor?
I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with her since she was first elected to represent Claines Ward and throughout she has indeed been a selfless and dedicated councillor who campaigned on behalf of the whole community.
It has been no coincidence that Claines can proudly boast one of the best electoral turnouts at each election, her dedication (and that of Councillor Sue Askins too) encouraged our electoral involvement.
Crowning her achievements was undoubtedly her year as Mayor, when she brought dignity and grace to the office.
Her anticipated retirement was a blow to us all, but she has laid down a marker for whoever is elected in May to succeed her - we have had the best and expect the best in future.
Now, her recovery from this illness is the main priority and I, and our family, wish her every blessing for a speedy return to full health.
Dr. Malcolm Nixon
