Sir - Thank you for your article 'Health Boss admits Royal not big enough' In that article we had it from the 'horses mouth' that the building of the Royal Worcester Hospital using Private Finance Initiative (PFI) was a Tory scheme and not New Labour as many of your correspondents seem to constantly state.

That it would be an extremely expensive way of providing a too small hospital was ignored for the sake of private greed was pointed out at the time. It is to New Labour's discredit that they decided to go ahead with the scheme.

New Labour's only redeeming act was to renegotiate some of the excessive profits made when the consortium building the hospital sold the contract on.

Thus your article showed that one of the first signs of the present creeping privatisation of our Health Service goes back to the days of when Robin Walker (now Worcester's Tory MP), was working for Stephen Dorrell.

So, looking at the present dire situation with regards to the Royal Hospital, it is obviously down to Robin Walker and his cohorts.
