Sir - In response to your comments about the Green Party’s manifesto in your editorial on 16th April – I don’t think a serious commitment to tackling climate change ought to be dismissed as ‘back-to-nature Nirvana’.
Last month, Vancouver became the first city in Canada to commit to a 100 per cent renewable energy target following a unanimous vote by the City Council.
Sydney, San Diego, San Francisco, Stockholm and Munich, among others, have set a 100 per cent renewable energy target. Is this to be mocked or praised?
Surely the latter, given its implicit acknowledgement that, if we want to ensure that we have a habitable planet for future generations, we need to wean ourselves off fossil fuels?
Although I appreciate that your editorial demands brevity, you could also have highlighted other headline features in the Green Party’s manifesto, such as bringing the railways back into public ownership and creating one million jobs that pay at least a living wage.
