My Raccoon skin hat - made from fur stole
SIR - Nice to read John Phillpott's memories of the Walt Disney film Davy Crockett King of the Wild Frontier, sixty years on!
My Aunt made me a Raccoon skin hat (Davey Crockett hat) from a fur stole, I wonder if it was on the same lines as Mr Phillpott's?
The film was the first film to produce its own merchandise eg the flintlock hand gun and the flintlock rifle (Old Betsy) and hats.
The latest film nods to Crockett being a first class musician, played by Billy Bob Thornton in the Crockett role.
Two legends died in 18936 at the Alamo, Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, inventor of the famous knife, fighting for freedom for their state of Texas, buying precious time for the army of Sam Houston.
