SIR - I attended the Swan Theatre production of The Dresser by Ronald Harwood recently.

It is an absolutely classic play, played brilliantly by the amateur company and yet sadly there was practically nobody in the audience. There were more volunteers and cast members. What has happened to the audiences in Worcester? Where has the support for our wonderful theatre gone?

The leading role of Sir was played by Frank Welbourne. I have seen Frank in many productions over the years but I think that this is the most outstanding performance he has ever given.

The tragic unravelling of his character was portrayed with as much sensitivity and skill as you will see in any West End production.

As you can tell, I was bowled over. Indeed all the supporting actors were very well cast and played.

But what is the point of all this artistry if no one comes to see it? Come on Worcester, let's support these productions in future.

Nikki Reeves, Worcester.

Sadly there was a wonderful production of the same play only last year at Malvern with Nicholas Lyndhurst - as pensioners there are only so many plays and concerts we can get to as ticket prices keep increasing. So we can hardly take in seeing the same play so soon after.

It's a shame when theatre's schedules clash, and often it's not possible to preempt another local theatre when planning ahead.

However, the ticket prices at the Swan for STAC productions like The Dresser are not prohibitive. STAC productions cost at most £9.50 and have reduced rates for pensioners of I think £7, which is barely more than the cost of a cinema ticket.

Anyone else interested in the theatre should come and see STAC's next play: "Popcorn", from Tue 26th June to Sat 30th June.
