SIR – These days we hear so much news detrimental to our NHS and very little good, but as an elderly person I must say Thank God for this wonderful service. Recently my husband went for tests at Hereford Hospital and on the same day was referred to Worcester ‘Severn Unit’ for an operation, which was performed the next morning.

The quality of care was exceptional, from the specialists, surgeons, doctors and nurses and everyone we were in contact with, throughout those very traumatic days.

Thankfully my husband is now home and well.

Without our local doctors’ care and swift decision for action, there may well have been a very different and sad outcome.

Thank you to all that serve in any capacity in our National Health Service, they deserve high praise.

Thanks to 111 and A&E staff

SIR – My husband was taken ill on Saturday afternoon so I rang 111, they responded in less than 10 minutes.

He was taken to A&E at Worcester Hospital where he was treated, although they were busy they still had time to explain all that was going to happen.

I have nothing but praise for both the 111 service and the staff at A&E, well done to you all.

Scare tactics by ‘in’ camp

SIR – The fearmongering of Cameron and the so-called ‘Remain’ campaign demonstrates their coordinated desperation to appease their EU puppet masters and big business supporters, in one deceitful claim after another.

A couple of weeks ago it was Obama, already making a mess of his own country, telling us we should continue to be ruled by unelected, anti democratic foreigners in Brussels. Yesterday, Cameron made ridiculous claims that Britain could end up at war if we left the controlling, hugely expensive EU experiment, ignoring the fact that what has delivered peace is trade, and organisations like the UN and NATO. It is corrupt that a British Prime Minister should abuse his position in such an underhand and cynical manner.

Generations of British men sacrificed and died to achieve peace in Europe, and continued freedom and independence for our historic nation, not to be swallowed up by Hitler’s dream to rule Europe from Germany, in the way Merkel appears to want to do. Today, we learn that those remaining from the 1977 American government have been rallied by Obama and the democrats, to voice their irrelevant view.

When they are employing fear tactics, you know they’ve lost the rational argument, so vote for freedom...vote to leave!

Nerve struck in ‘out’ camp

SIR – The vitriol directed towards David Cameron regarding keeping the peace in Europe merely shows the truth of the raw nerve he struck amongst the Brexit brigade.

I will however freely concede that the way the speech was phrased left a gaping open goal. But that doesn’t mean that what he said did not have the traction that it deserved.

It may surprise your readers that I am in total agreement with the remarks of Wendy Hands regarding President Obama trying to tell us what we should do in as blunt a fashion that he did.

But always remember that the Americans have every right to express an opinion on the EU issue. In fact they have 240,000 reasons, that’s the number of American servicemen, their finest and best who joined arms with us and are buried all over Europe, who joined arms with us in the fight for freedom in WWII.

Thank you for all your votes

SIR – I write on behalf of the seven Labour Councillors elected last week to serve for the next four years on the city council. We would like to thank our electors for the trust they have placed in us. Thank you too to all the staff who worked so hard to make the election a smooth one.

We will now do our best to implement the Labour policies for which we were elected, widely advertised in our manifesto, in whatever governance structure emerges in the city council in the coming days. At ward level, we will continue to represent, advise, guide and support constituents, of any political persuasion or of none, who seek our help.

Refugees not wanted here

SIR – Please give a fairer account regarding Syrian refugees. It would seem a majority of Worcester News readers do not want them here.

There is no guarantee that some of them may become radicalised and prove a threat to British Citizens.

Local Worcester children have been denied a place at schools of their choice, yet any refugee child will be immediately placed into schools.

These people are Middle East Muslims who should be resettled nearer to their own homeland.
