SIR – Tom Edwards in his weekly column noted that Green councillor Louis Stephen was not allowed to vote on the Worcester Woods retail park as he had already publicly stated that he opposed the development.

This was because, as I know from my time as a district councillor, he had clearly breached the code of conduct regarding the predetermination of planning applications and presumably it was the Worcester City chief executive who rightly adjudicated that this was the case.

This has further ramifications because as I stated in a previous letter the same applies to the WCFC Perdiswell application. When the Green/Labour coalition took over the administration you reported that one of the conditions the Greens insisted upon was that the agreement was subject to the Perdiswell application being refused. This is also a clear breach of the code of conduct.

Therefore I would publicly challenge Adrian Gregson as council leader if this is indeed the case. If it is then not only should the Greens not be allowed to vote but neither should the Labour group as well.

I would also publicly ask the Worcester City Council chief executive to give her expert advice if this is the case.

If this application is refused without proper scrutiny along the lines that I have proposed there is the possibility that not only will the decision be challenged through a planning appeal, but also a judicial review. I look forward to the responses from both the leader and chief executive.

Threats from Remain dull

Sir – The threats from those who voted for the Remain brigade is becoming very boring.

The young ones are saying us old ones who vote for Leave have spoiled everything for them. Perhaps their history teacher forgot to tell them some old ones stopped them having to talk German.

People ignored the Brussels Broadcasting Corporation, known as the BBC, not to mention Cameron, a load of banks, the President of the USA saying something about back of the queue, talk of World War 3, the pound crashing and the Leave brigade being responsible for violence against immigrants.

Sunderland gave a very large vote to Leave in spite of threats from the chairman of Toyota to pull out.

Still I suppose Mr David Barlow will still be rabbiting on about the Leave brigade having it all wrong. This is the last letter on the subject from me. Out is out to you Remain brigade. It’s called democracy.

Councillor is in the wrong

Sir – Our comments on the inflammatory remarks of Cllr Alan Amos are apposite and he has, of course, been caught (on Hampstead Heath) for worse than foot in mouth.

He was the one who, without consulting anyone, campaigned for Worcester to twin with Gaza and brought widespread ridicule on the city.

Brings back memories

SIR - In reference to the Nostalgia article on the two toll-houses once standing on Worcester bridge (West).

My grandmother lived in one of them when she was married. I believe they were rented out by the council.

When she was moved to more “modern” dwellings I remember as a lad she had a framed engraving on her wall of the two houses very much the same as your illustration with the article.

Again, when a young boy she told me she could never hang anything on the walls because they were round!
