SIR – I read with interest that our newly elected Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion, does not think it necessary to resign as a county councillor.

He tells us that he wants to avoid the expense of an unnecessary by-election just 10 months before the next full elections.

I think that there is some merit in this argument, but do wonder why he has not resigned as district councillor for Bewdley and Rock.

The next district council elections are not until 2019, and I wonder if he expects us to wait until then before he steps down.

Like many others, I am concerned about how he can properly represent local people on the council while also being PCC for all of the whole of the West Mercia region. Surely something has got to give and I suspect it will be the residents of Bewdley and Rock who will lose out.

Similarly, Deputy PCC, Tracey Onslow, is also a district councillor and a cabinet member.

With her commitments so divided, I doubt that she will be able to devote the right amount of time and energy to helping the people she claims to represent. It is my view that both John Campion and Tracy Onslow should resign now from the district council so that they can be replaced by councillors who will be better able to represent local people.
